Magic Highways

Ah, there’s nothing so dated as the future.  Here’s the Disney version, literally, of the highways of the future.

They got almost everything wrong (except, of course, sprawl), mainly because they assumed a staggering amount of unlimited energy.

  1. The level propaganda from the auto industry last century was just staggering. Given that many of today’s leaders grew up being pretty much being constantly bombarded by messages like this, it is not surprising we are in the mess we are today.
    For example, there is this gem, GM’s Futurama.

    The scope of the vision created by one company is quite amazing. Their aim was to entirely change the world so that it revolved around their products. They pretty much succeeded. Talk about social engineering.

    Surely you’re not suggesting that auto companies stopped advertising come 2000? What do you think their principal pitch is today? As far as I can tell, they still market speed/performance and some kind of status or image enhancement.
