I think it’s hard for any library not to be beautiful. All those books in one place!
They are beautiful, to be sure, but how many are simply museum pieces and how many are actually functional, practical, inviting spaces for information storage and retrieval?
I should note that the main branch of the public library in British Columbia’s capital city was awkwardly crammed into what was supposed to be temporary quarters in a government office complex and has been there for thirty years!
