William Whyte was an American urbanist and people watcher who was one of the first people to identify how to create vibrant public spaces by using creativity and moveable elements. As a sociologist and journalist “Holly” Whyte filmed people in plazas in New York City in the 20th century.
Richard Rein, author of a new biography of White, offers a glimpse into the mind of an urbanist whose thoughts changed how planners and others think about how to create the kinds of places where we want to go to and through.
