The term “Vikings” is the name given to sailing pirates from southern Scandinavia who travelled, traded and plundered throughout Europe from the 8th to 11th centuries. Present day Denmark has a population of 5.8 million people, slightly more than British Columbia’s population of 5.071 (2019 figures).
The Danish are very serious about their road safety. The Danish Road Safety Council have staged an elaborate public service announcement (which you can view above) to show that if you are planning on invading and pillaging England in the tenth century, wearing a helmet is probably a good idea.
Over the years this Road Safety Council has produced some pointed and sometimes graphic videos, including one showing the impact of a young person going through a windshield. These safety commercials are poignantly produced and direct on their messaging.
